Not cute enough for tv…

A statement was released by the Chinese media admitting that the cute pig-tailed girl (above) who sang “Ode to the Motherland” during the opening ceremony was in fact lip-synching, because the face of the actual singer (below) was “not suitable”. [source]

…damn shame that children are still being made to feel ugly if they don’t have that “mainstream American” look. Even in China. *checks calendar* This IS 2008, right?

The ‘Recall Kwame Kilpatrick’ Effort Needs Your Help…

…now I know a lot of y’all aren’t Detroiters - so you can’t sign the petitions. But a sista can read, so I know a lot of non-Detroiters agree with me - Kwame Kilpatrick has lost his damned mind! He’s no longer fit to run the city, and he needs to GO.

So far only 25,000 valid signatures have been obtained - but 58,000 valid signatures are needed by the end of August. The recall campaign has no phones because they have no money - so, can we help them out?

If you’re a registered voter in the D - go to the Recall Kilpatrick website, find a petition location, then go sign, ok?

If you’re not a Detroit resident - but still want to help - give ‘em some money!  Visit the Recall Kilpatrick website,  and make a donation. They accept credit cards, checks, and PayPal. I haven’t donated yet - but check me out on Thurdsay (payday). I’ll be sending a little somethin’ their way. Hope you join me!

Quote Of The Day: Jay Z

“I think it’s more important for me to be in touch with who I am than in touch with the streets, per se,’ he says. ‘Being in touch with the streets, keeping it real, that’s become a lie and a cliche. I’m not hanging on the corner in the Bed-Stuy. I hate it when rappers say, “I’m keeping it ‘hood.” I’m like, “Why? What do you mean? No one’s there by choice! You’re in the hood, by choice?”‘”

I’m so glad to hear a rapper finally say that!

I Guess Rick Ross Ain’t Gangsta…

I just read TSG’s report on employment records proving rapper Rick Ross was INDEED a correctional officer back in the ’90’s:

“…Ross (real name: William Leonard Roberts) was appointed a prison guard in December 1995 at a salary of $22,913.54, according to the below personnel record, which was provided to TSG by Jo Ellyn Rackleff, a DoC spokesperson. The rapper’s social security number is identical to that of the jail guard. According to the official document, Ross was earning $25,794.34 when he left the department in June 1997. After graduating from the DoC training academy, Ross was assigned to the South Florida Reception Center in Dade County…”

Gotta be honest with you - I’m not a Rick Ross fan, so while this news may be devastating to some, it doesn’t even phase me. After all, It’s not like it was this man:

If somebody (other than Shawty Lo) told me Tip’s gangsta was fake - I think my little heart would be broken. What about all my thug nigga fantasies? Would that mean I could no longer dream about rollin’ wit’ him & his .44, and his dro, and his Chevy on 24’s, and his h*e (who would be me, I guess) -all Bankhead-bound? And we couldn’t do what we’d do when we got there? Dang.
That would hurt me. Bad.

I wonder if this news crushes the sexual fantasies of Rick Ross’ female fans? After all, he’s soooo hot:

Rick - The sound you hear is that of millions of women pulling their panties back up. ROUSE!!!!

Just Some Things I Need To Hear…

Because I follow God’s Word:

I am blessed. Blessed in the city, blessed in the field. Blessed when I go out, and when I come in. I’m blessed in the basket, and in the store. My child is blessed. My family is blessed.

I’m able to speak those things that be NOT, until they ARE. My words have power.

I am the head, and not the tail. I am above ONLY, and not beneath. Wherever my feet tread belongs to ME, and whatsoever I put my hand to shall prosper - in Jesus’ name.

I speak to my mountains, FULLY expecting them to move.

And when I miss it:

I can go to God, and confess my sins. As I confess my sins - He is faithful and just to forgive my sins, and cleanse me of all unrighteousness.

If you need some encouragement today - just replace (I) with your name, because if you’re God’s child - these are His promises to you, too!

What Nas MEANT To Say Was…

“In life, sometimes you have your moment. You have your window that lies upon you and then it leaves. This is not Jesse’s time right now. This is Barack Obama’s time, and I think he’s having a problem with that.”  [source]

Director Spike Lee on Jesse Jackson’s urge to “cut off Obama’s nut’s”.  Think he stated it much better than Nas.  Nas’ intent was clear, but he could stand to take a page from the “Yung Berg Lessons Learned” handbook:  Lesson 1: It’s not WHAT you say - but HOW you say it.

Quote of the Day: CeCe Winans

In the August 2008 issue of ESSENCE Magazine - CeCe Winans gives Black girls (and women) uplifting advice:

“It doesn’t matter where you’ve been or what you’ve done, you are God’s beloved child. To help our girls understand that..I tell them, don’t spend your time with people who do not respect and honor you. Get with the right people. Celebrate yourself and other young women…Speak good, pure things about yourself, because what you speak is what you become: it can change your life.”

Quote of the Day: Dave Bing

Businessman and former Detroit Piston Dave Bing - speaking to the The Detroit Free Press about the Kwame Kilpatrick scandal’s effect on the City of Detroit, in an interview concerning Bing’s possible mayoral run:

“I don’t think we can prejudge the legality of what the mayor is going through,” Bing said. “But whether he’s guilty or innocent is not the issue to me right now. It’s the harm that’s being placed upon the citizens. And I don’t think anybody can deflect that. I just think some kind of way, the political leadership, the business leadership, the educational leadership have all got to sit down at the table and figure out a model that works for everybody, and tough decisions have got to be made. We are not going to be the city that we were 10, 20 years ago.”
