Thanks, Corey!
In elementary school & jr. high, girls and boys who looked like me were “Negroes”. My grandparents referred to people who looked like me as “colored”. No disrespect intended - it’s just the way the world was back then.
Girls with “good hair” had their own clique. So did the girls with “bad hair”. Girls with “good hair” were chased home from school by the boys - they called it playing ”hide ‘n’ go get ‘em”. Girls like me were just teased. We used to sing this song in school - “Every boy can be President, of the United States, United States, United States - of America”, but nobody really thought it applied to the little colored boys. It was the white boy’s dream - not our boy’s dream.
I can clearly recall where I was when I heard President Kennedy had been assasinated. And when RFK was assasinated. And when Martin Luther King, jr. was assasinated. And when Malcolm X was assasinated. And I clearly remember the ‘67 riots. These were all re-defining moments of a little colored girl’s childhood. Signs of the times (shoutout to Prince).
Election Day ‘08 is that type of moment for todays’ little Black kids. On November 4th, 2008, America showed her true colors, and elected a Black man to her highest office - making millions of people proud beyond words. And I’m not embarassed to sing at the top of my lungs “Say It Loud - I’m Black & I’m Proud” (shoutout to JB). Because I truly am.
Sing with me. Yo know you want to…
Barack Obama has been elected the 44th President of the United States, becoming America’s 1st Black President. History has been made, people.
Kwame Kilpatrick showed his true strengths tonight by giving a very classy, very polished exit speech - speaking on his childhood mayoral dreams, and the duties of a public servant.
In this speech he gives us a glimpse of the potential Detroiters once saw in our new, young mayor. He was honest about his mistakes, apologetic, and encouraging to the citizens of Detroit in our efforts to move forward. THIS is the Kwame Kilpatrick I’ll miss - a charming, charismatic leader. Kwame was brilliant! …until he attacked Gov. Granholm.
But he recovers quickly, offers his hand to the incoming mayor - Kenneth Cockrel, Jr., and touches on his many accomplishments during his mayoral tenure.
Nice job, Kwame. I just wish this speech could be your legacy.

*throws hands in the air, rocks left to right, then breaks out in the Earl Flynn [1]* …n*gga, The King back. n*gga, you seen that? The King Back!
I’m about to turn over and go back to sleep, but I’m taking a quick minute to celebrate Tip’s #1 spot on the Billboard charts. U My Sista, Girl! has been on T.I.P. watch since his arrest, and I’ve been clowned by commenters on other blogs because I said I was praying for Tip. But I’m an overcomer, so I believe in overcoming. Ask yourself - WWJD? lol!
For all the folks who looked forward predicted the demise of T.I.’s career, and a 20-yr. bid for him in Club Fed, I just want to take a minute to say - KING BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[1] just an innocent dance reference…

T.I.’s “Whatever You Like” is #1 on Billboard charts. According to Rap-up.com, the single took a leap from #71 to #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, setting a record which - according to NecoleBitchie.com - was previously held by Maroon 5, who took a 64-1 jump with “Makes Me Wonder” in the May 12, 2007 issue.
The King back…

..but apparently he’s got six half brothers - one of whom is living in a 3′ x 3′ shack in Kenya. George Hussein Onyango Obama, 26, has been living a hard life in Huruma, Kenya - just on the outskirts of Nairobi. George and Barack have only met twice, and according to the Telegraph:
“If anyone says something about my surname, I say we are not related. I am ashamed,” he said. For ten years George Obama lived rough. However he now hopes to try to sort his life out by starting a course at a local technical college.
He has only met his famous older brother twice - once when he was just five and the last time in 2006 when Senator Obama was on a tour of East Africa and visited Nairobi.
The Illinois senator mentions his brother in his autobiography, describing him in just one passing paragraph as a “beautiful boy with a rounded head”.
An interesting story. I love that he appears humble, and doesn’t seem to expect his brother to fix his life - which would be the American way. I also hope McCain doesn’t spin this so that George’s living conditions become an example of Barack’s shortcomings.

Berlin, Germany
Thank you to the citizens of Berlin and to the people of Germany. Let me thank Chancellor Merkel and Foreign Minister Steinmeier for welcoming me earlier today. Thank you Mayor Wowereit, the Berlin Senate, the police, and most of all thank you for this welcome.
I come to Berlin as so many of my countrymen have come before. Tonight, I speak to you not as a candidate for President, but as a citizen – a proud citizen of the United States, and a fellow citizen of the world.
I know that I don’t look like the Americans who’ve previously spoken in this great city. The journey that led me here is improbable. My mother was born in the heartland of America, but my father grew up herding goats in Kenya. His father – my grandfather – was a cook, a domestic servant to the British.
