Maxwell Performs on Jay Leno Show

Having exhausted all known adjectives that describe the sexiness that is Maxwell, I’ll just say Maxwell performed his latest single “Fistful of Tear” on the Jay Leno Show, 4/22/10. Here’s the video. Enjoy…

Maxwell – “Fistful of Tears” Video

I’ve said it before – Maxwell is the quintessential soul man. I L.O.V.E. me some him! I’m feeling the Shadow Band, too…

Quote of the Day: Maxwell…

(Or –  as some folk might call it – just another random Maxwell post.)

Sorry, but I stans for Maxwell seriously, with no shame at all. Maxwell makes grown folk music that you can listen to without worrying about embarassing your people, ya know?

I still stan hard (harder, maybe?) for Tip – but, man, I ALWAYS have to explain to my sisters and nephews why Dope Boyz, Do It, What’s Yo’ Name, or anything from Trap Muzik is on high rotation in my car.

Maxwell’s music requires no such explanation. It speaks about life, love, relationships – and sex – without painting the whole d@mn picture. Here’s an example as Maxwell sings about being alone with his girl in “Stop The World”:

“Let the world rage outside
‘cuz when I’m here with you the world stops for me.
The world stops for me.
And then extraordinary, ordinary things – things I can’t explain in subtext.
The world stops for me.
And girl, you know just what I mean – I need you, girl.
Sing me a song, sing it soft, sing it long, – girl, stop my world.”

That’s what I’m talking about. With one simple phrase we KNOW what’s happening. No pokin’ her face, pullin’ on her weave, or talking about which end he wants to hit it from – just “I can’t explain it in subtext, but girl, you know what I mean”. Real simple.

Just the way grown folk like it.

Maxwell on the ” Early Show”

“Bad Habits”

“Sumthin’, Sumthin’ “

*…So if it’s cool I wanna rock with you, slip you my mellosmoothe, rock you until you’re blue, but only, only if it’s cool…*

Sorry –  y’all know I love me some Maxwell. Check him out live at today’s ”Early Show” taping.

FYI -” BLACKsummersnight” is an awesome listen. Very consistent. Very ‘classic Maxwell’, if you know what I mean. Think “Urban Hang Suite” or “Now” - not “Embrya” (which I loved, btw).

From Maxwell’s older interviews, I get the impression he’s more “a child of the universe”, than the average brother – which probably accounts for the trippiness of “Embrya”. But after purchasing (and loving) the new album, I’m very curious to hear the version that Sony shelved due to reportedly “homo-erotic overtones”. I know I shouldn’t be – but I am.

And let me just say my all-time favorite Maxwell song, pre-”Pretty Wings”, was the trip-hoppy “Softly, Softly”, which he performed on Sweetback’s album.

Maxwell & Nas

Looks like Maxwell and Nas were having a really good time poppin’ bottles in Turks and Caicos. Now, is it just me – or is Musze smokin’ sumthin’? Nah, probably just a cigar…
