Old skool D-Love: The Floaters - “Float On”

The Floater’s “Float On” has got to be THE worst love song to come out of the D, but for some reason, the women loved these boys. I remember telling my friend Cheryl “the day The Floaters appear on Soul Train will be the day I purchase “Float On”, because there was just no way that would happen.

I’ll be damned if The Floaters didn’t actually perform that song on Soul Train. And the song even had the nerve to go platinum. Who knew?

Even funnier - My work buddy KC knows ALL the old jams, which I found interesting since he’s just barely 30 yrs. old. Per KC - his father listened to all the old jams, and it just rubbed off on him. Then he tells me his dad is Charles. As in “Libra - and my name is Charles“. Check KC’s daddy out at the 1 minute mark.

Come to think of it - my cousin used to date one of these guys. I think it was Paul.

Detroit Love: Black Milk - “Give the Drummer Sum”

Earlier today I read what Detroit’s #1 alternative newspaper - The Metro Times - had to say about D-town rapper Black Milk in their article on movers and shakers in the Detroit cultural scene.

Then this evening I came across the video for “Give The Drummer Sum” on my favorite local Hip-Hop site - MichiganHipHop.com. Coincidence? I think not. More like perfect timing.
