I found a story about Yung Berg’s preference in women, and posted about it here. And I’ve been regretting it for a few minutes, now.
Not because I don’t think Yung Berg is an ignorant little punk, whose only claim to fame is the foolishess that spews from his mouth – but because I realize some folk might be amused by what he said. Or even worse – influenced.
I know men are visual. When it comes to women – men are moved by what they see. For this reason, their preferences in women are strongly ingrained. And I don’t have a problem with that. My ex-brother-in-law went through a period where – not only did his dates all look the same – his dates all had the same name – “Angel”.
As my pastor said: “Ladies – if a man doesn’t want you, he’s probably doing you a favor”. Let that man find the woman he wants – less chance of him cheating on you with women he REALLY is attracted to.
I’m good with that. Had Yung Berg simply said “I like Black women who can also check the “Other” box – he would have been stating an honest preference. Instead he chose to denigrate an entire segment of Black women by calling them “dark-butt’s”, and implying their natural hair is ugly when it get’s wet. That’s ignorant.
Much like me saying I like my thug rappers “authentic”- *shouts out Lauren London* - and not young, ignorant, fake-chain-wearing, tatted-up buffoons. Oh, and you can insert “Yung Berg-lookin’” anywhere in that last part.
My point is simply this: It’s possible to state a preference without insulting those folk that AREN’T your preference. Let’s be better about each other, people. It’s time.

One word. Wow.
Now I understand better why you felt the way you did. I’m also sure someone will be amused by what he said. I saw over on Bossip yesterday that the comments on this issue hit over 1100.
Just like D.L. Hughly made light of what Don Imus said about the Rutgers girls’ hair, Berg is no different.
Where’s the respect for the sisters? I know there are SOME that ride for us brownies, but I wish they would speak up and not just be quiet all the time.
